Energy Systems

  ATP PC Lactic Acid Aerobic
Source of fuel Creatine Phosphate Glycogen Glycogen / Fat /(Protein) in extremes
Efficiency of ATP production Extremely quick. Does not make ATP but regenerates ADP. 2 molecules of ATP per molecule of glycogen. Fast to supply ATP. 38 ATP per molecule of Glycogen. Slower to produce than other methods.
Duration that the system can operate 5-15 seconds 45 - 90  seconds unlimited while fuel source is available
Cause of fatigue Depletion of creatine phosphate  Build up of lactic acid depletion of fuel
By products of energy production nil lactic acid Heat, CO2, water
Process and rate of recovery  takes 10-30 seconds for the PC to resynthesise to be used again  Takes from 20 minutes to an hour to breakdown the lactic acid and restore muscle glycogen levels takes up to 2 days to fully replensih glycogen stores after extended duratiom events
